Arsenal Vs Manchester United - 01/02/05 -

Its 28 Millionaires being managed by another 2 millinaires chasing after a single ball at a football stadium in North London. Yet over 600 Million people will be staring into their TV screens with the match result affecting them financially or emotionally.

How did we let ourselves be consumed by something that is supposed to entertain us? Depending on the result, few would be thanking god and a certain few cursing god. 2000 miles away from the stadium there maybe one idiot thinking his team would have won if he had sat on his fav chair during the match or never left his fav spot on the sofa...

These people are not educated, dont work for over 5 hrs a day, yet make millions just because kick a ball better than others, some cannot even do that! All this from the 20 over GBP that ppl pay at the stadium stadium turnstiles and by silly money that we pay for our cable TV + people who try to influence those minds that watch commercials by over-hyping thier products during half-time.

So the question is - Is it advisable to concentrate on sports from a young age? and what makes a person sitting in India assume his actions at home can influence something happening 1000s of miles away in North London?

word.

it was marx who said, religion is the opiate of the masses. well, these days, EPL has a way bigger marketing budget than God.

EPL keeps the masses happy and sated. it could have been worse. imagine if the singapore indie pop scene is the new EPL... hootie

Sports is essential for man just as arts is important. If a few of us had not put their mind and soul on certain sports activities we would not have known its zenith and off course the beauty and joy that comes out of it. Just as you are concentrating on your job (hopefully) it is upto others to decide what he or she likes and concentrate in that area.

I do not think a normal person will assume that his mere action of being a potato couch, albeit temporarily, will affect the outcome of an event far away.

Four fans went rock climbing: a Man Utd fan, an Arsenal fan, a Kopite, and
an Evertonian. They had been arguing all the way up the mountain about who
amongst them loved their team more and was the most "diehard" fan.

The argument grew hotter and hotter and the four fans grew more and more
agitated. Such was the emotion that upon reaching the top of the mountain,
the Man Utd fan proclaimed loudly and earnestly to the other three, "This is
for Man Utd!" and without a moments hesitation threw himself off the
mountain. The supreme sacrifice!

Not to be outdone by a Man Utd fan, the Arsenal fan jumped up and cried out,
"This is for Thierry Henry AND Arsenal" and quickly threw himself off the
mountain, also willing to sacrifice himself to prove his devotion to his
team.

Refusing to be outdone by the Man Utd and Arsenal fans, the Evertonian rose
to his feet, summoned up every ounce of his courage, and yelled at the top
of his lungs, "This is for Everton!!" and without a moment's hesitation,
shoved the Kopite off the mountain.
